Helios Follows the Gaze of the Sun

Welcome gentle souls,

There is something ancient within the wildness of summer. A quiet remembering carried on warm air and birdsong and the scent of herbs crushed softly beneath bare feet.

At the height of the season, nature blooms without hesitation. The earth opens fully to the sun, untamed, abundant and fragrant. I feel like we are invited to do the same.

In the old folklore and ancient healing traditions, the plants and herbs gathered at midsummer carried more potentcy and symbolic medicine for both body and spirit. Isn’t it wonderful that we can receive this beautiful bounty.

My little poem for the midsummer

Helios follows the gaze of the sun,

Thyme grows wild where the old paths run,

Velveteen blooms of dusky rose,

Petalled perfume of fragrance arose.

Artemisia heralds prophetic dreams,

Chamomile weaves through protective seams,

Lavender bells call softly to the fey,

Oxeye daisy crowns for the solstice way,

Ladies mantle and Queen Anne’s Lace,

Mugwort lingers for mysteries graced.

The beauty of these plants is not only how they look and smell, but in what they invoke within us. Lavender invites calm. Chamomile softens the nervous system. Mugwort and Artemisia have long been connected with intuition, dreaming and the unseen. Wild thyme creeps through forgotten pathways like memory itself.

May this season remind you that you, too, are part of nature.

Allowed to bloom.

Allowed to soften,

Allowed to follow the gaze of your own inner sun.

Until next time,

Blessings,

Stephanie
